Taking an even closer look at the map once more, we see that Hole 2 actually had 2 options.
1. Play through to the green and continue on to 3. (Red Arrow)
2. Loop back to the club house (past the bowling green). (Blue Arrows)
I guess if you are working on your short game... a 2 hole course would fit the bill. Note that the loop option takes you right through the 9th driving range. I wonder how well that worked out...

This hole really lives up to it's name! We're lucky enough to have uncovered several actual photos of the green at Purgatory.
These photos were taken at the current corner of Shorewood and Downer looking east. The red arrow indicates the Club House on the corner of Beverly and Lake. Can you see the windmill?
